Jermaine
Obviously, this is not the greatest piece of art ever created. Although, this not a masterpiece I believe the thought I put into it will be what hopefully makes you guys appreciate it. Instead of using just one photo of Jermaine to make my portrait. I tried to pull photos that had the best features or looks at each piece of his face. After the head itself the first thing I drew was his hair for his hair I tried to use this image as my model.
This image really shows the shape of his hairline, it starts out on about a 45 degree angle than jets up to a 90 degree angle and then runs parallel to the floor. For his eyebrows I chose to use this image.
I really like how the titled eyebrows look in the portrait so that's why I went with them, I also thought I'd make his eyebrows thicker to emphasize them more in the picture. Next onto his eyes/glasses. I had to decide whether or not to have my Jermaine where glasses. I decided against the glasses because in more recent photos of Jermaine hasn't worn glasses and quite frankly when I tried to draw the glasses I sucked at it. For his eyes I used this picture.
I feel this picture really shoes the average amount his eyes are open in terms of height and his eye colour. I had lots of trouble drawing Jermaine's nose because it has a fairly unique shape and overall Im not great at drawing noses so instead of trying to copy his nose, I made a fairly generic nose. The same goes for the ears. One of Jermaine's defining facial characters is his large lower lip. When making the mouth, I felt like that was the part I should really focus on. The source image I used for the mouth was this.
I know that overall my picture isnt that great but I think if you look past the just the portrait you'll see lots of thought went into it. I think that the best part of my photo is the hair and the mouth. Have fun judging
